What To Expect
A clear, respectful process designed to help adults stabilize and take next steps — without emergency or inpatient
What to Expect at Emergent Mental Health Services
Adult Crisis-Lite Mental Health Support
Emergent Mental Health Services provides Crisis-Lite mental health care for adults (18+) who are feeling overwhelmed, emotionally unstable, or struggling to cope — but who do not need emergency services or inpatient hospitalization.
Our care is:
- Voluntary
- Non-emergency
- Short-term and stabilization-focused
We help you feel steadier, regain control, and connect to next-step care when you are ready.
How Your Visit Works (From Walk-In to Leaving)
When You Arrive
You’ll be welcomed, oriented to the clinic, and supported right away. We’ll gather basic information and make sure you feel safe and heard. A Peer Support Specialist may sit with you, offer support, and help you feel more comfortable.
This is not emergency triage. If an emergency is identified, we will help you access emergency services.
Understanding What You Need Right Now
You’ll meet with a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) to talk about what brought you in.
Together, we focus on:
- What you’re experiencing right now
- How intense the distress feels
- How it’s affecting your daily functioning
- What support will help you stabilize
This is not long-term therapy or deep diagnostic work. It’s about helping you get through the moment and regain balance.
The Services We Offer (Client-Focused)
Crisis-Lite Clinical Support
You’ll receive short-term clinical support focused on calming distress and improving stability.
This may include:
- Emotional regulation and grounding skills
- De-escalation support
- Coping strategies you can use immediately
- Help restoring daily functioning
Services are goal-focused and time-limited, not ongoing psychotherapy.
Psychiatric Evaluation & Short-Term Medication Support (When Needed)
If medication support would help, you may meet with a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner.
This support includes:
- Focused psychiatric evaluation
- Short-term medication initiation or adjustment
- Monitoring during stabilization
- A clear plan to transition medication care back to a long-term provider
Medication services are stabilization-focused and temporary.
Peer Support (Individual & Group)
Peer Support Specialists provide non-clinical support from lived experience.
Peer support helps with:
- Feeling understood and less alone
- Encouragement and hope
- Staying engaged in care
- Reinforcing coping strategies
- Navigating next steps
Peer support is supportive, not therapy.
Stabilization-Focused Groups (When Scheduled)
Groups offer structured, skills-based support while you stabilize or wait for ongoing care.
Groups focus on:
- Coping skills
- Emotional regulation
- Support during transitions
- Short-term participation (rolling admission)
Groups are not long-term therapy.
Case Management & Care Coordination
Case managers help reduce the real-life stressors that can make mental health worse.
This support includes:
- Connecting you to outpatient therapy or psychiatry
- Help with housing, benefits, employment, or resources
- Scheduling follow-up appointments
- Coordinating care with other providers
- Planning next steps after your visit
Case management is about connection and follow-through, not counseling.
Transportation Support (When Appropriate)
Transportation may be available to help you access services or follow-up care.
Transportation is:
- Non-emergency
- Supportive, not custodial
- Not continuously monitored
- Not probation-related
- Based on availability and clinical appropriateness
Before You Leave
Before your visit ends, we make sure you:
- Understand what was addressed
- Have tools to help manage symptoms
- Know what your next steps are
- Have referrals or follow-up plans if needed
- Know when and how to seek higher levels of care
